About Windmill Acres Farm

Windmill Acres BarnWindmill Acres Farm is a small, family owned and operated goat dairy located in beautiful north central Florida near Ocala.  We maintain the herd, do the milking, make and market the products.  We operate under a basic fundamental goal to always produce a product that we would want to purchase ourselves and to produce a healthy alternative for our customers.

We have an aggressive herd health management program that includes frequent stall and pen cleaning as we believe that if the animals are kept healthy then they won’t need to be medicated.  We also practice farm biosecurity in order to prevent the spread of diseases onto our farm. This is an effort to keep antibiotics and chemical wormers from being used on our animals.  We do not use antibiotics or hormones as growth promoting agents.  We use agricultural methods that reduce our carbon footprint such as skylights in the barns to reduce power consumption and we harvest our rainwater for future use. We compost all farm organic materials. The composted material is either used in our own gardens or offered to our customers at a reasonable price.

We feed a high quality non medicated feed to the dairy herd along with high quality perennial peanut hay. This technique not only produces a consistent flavor in our milk and products but also assists in keeping production at favorable levels.

Windmill Acres Farm- Goat MilkingWe milk the animals and make products to the highest standard possible, in fact, the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) requires that pet foods, like human foods, be pure and wholesome, safe to eat, produced under sanitary conditions, contain no harmful substances, and be truthfully labeled. We follow these strict standards in the production of our products.

Windmill Acres Farm AwardMost of our products need to be labeled “animal feed or not for human consumption” because they are not processed or stored in a permitted facility.  These products are legally sold under a “master feed registration” issued by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Alan attended Florida A&M University in May of 2011 and became certified as a Master Goat Producer. He also was awarded the Florida Innovative Farmer Award for the 2011 Florida Small Farms Conference.
